EU Commission adopts chromium VI leather restriction

The European Commission has adopted a Regulation restricting chromium (VI) in leather articles, by amending Annex XVII to REACH.
The original restriction proposal was submitted by Denmark to ECHA in 2012, based on a study indicating that almost half of the shoes and leather sandals examined contained chromium VI (CW 16 March 2012).
The Regulation, which was published in the Official Journal, will apply from 1 May 2015.
